Terms of Service
1. Agreement
These Terms govern your use of the Composure application, website, and related services (the "Service"), operated by Story Atlas, LLC ("Composure," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. Your account
You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure; you're responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 to use the Service, and if you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission.
3. Ownership of the Service
The Service — including all software, source code, design, interfaces, text, graphics, logos, the "Composure," "Story Atlas," and "Atlas" names and marks, and the underlying prompts, workflows, and methods we use to operate it (the "Composure IP") — is owned by Story Atlas, LLC and its licensors, and is protected by copyright, trademark, trade-secret, and other laws. Except for the limited license below, no rights in the Composure IP are granted, and all rights not expressly granted are reserved.
4. Your license to use the Service
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms and your plan. This license ends automatically if you breach these Terms.
5. Your content — it's yours
You own the writing and other content you create or upload ("Your Content"). You grant us only the limited license needed to store, process, transmit, back up, and display Your Content in order to operate the Service for you. We claim no ownership of Your Content, and we will never use your writing, stories, or content to train AI models — ours or anyone else's.
We do learn from how the Service is used — feature usage, performance, and error data guide how Composure improves — but that is analytics about usage patterns, never the substance of what you write.
6. AI features
Composure's AI features generate text using third-party AI models. To fulfill your requests, relevant portions of Your Content are transmitted to those model providers (see the Privacy Policy for the list). AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable; you are responsible for reviewing and deciding how to use it. AI output based on Your Content is yours to use.
7. Ink, plans, and payments
"Ink" is Composure's record and allowance of AI usage. Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Promotional grants (including beta credits) have no cash value, may expire — beta credits do not roll over past the beta period — and may change as the Service evolves.
8. Refunds
Within 14 days of a charge, we will refund the base subscription cost and any unused ink from that charge on request. Ink already spent on AI processing is not refundable — that cost is incurred with our providers the moment the work runs. You can cancel any time; access continues through the end of the paid period.
9. Beta terms
Beta features, plans, and credits are provided as a preview: they may change, pause, or end at any time, and beta credits expire when the beta closes. If you send feedback, you grant us the right to use it freely to improve the Service, without obligation or compensation.
10. Acceptable use
You may not: reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, prompts, or methods of the Service; scrape, crawl, or bulk-export the Service other than your own content; resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties as a service; circumvent usage limits, seat caps, or security measures; use the Service to violate law or the rights of others; or upload malicious code. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms, unlawful use, or risk to the Service or other users. Sections 3, 5, and 12–15 survive termination.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, though we back up data and work hard to keep it safe.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Story Atlas, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or lost profits or data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or $50 if you have paid nothing).
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Alabama.
